Meet Isabel.

Isabel Sommers - Trainee Psychologist MSc Health psychology, BSc (Hons) Psych, counc, DHP Acc. Hyp, GMBPsS

I'm Isabel, the founder of Reflexions Therapy Services. After a 13-year career as a police officer came to an unexpected end due to injury, I knew I wanted to continue helping people. Reflexions was born from my passion for supporting others, using the skills and experiences I’ve gained over the years to make a real difference.

As a mother of four and grandmother of four, I have extensive experience working with children, particularly those with additional needs. Two of my children have an autism diagnosis, and while they were young, I worked in schools supporting children with special educational needs. I later trained as a Restorative Justice Facilitator, helping young offenders understand the impact of their actions on their victims.

Academically, I am a trainee Health Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS). I hold an MSc (Merit) in health psychology and a BSc (Hons) in psychology with counselling. I provide support as a psychotherapist, incorporating evidence-informed approaches to wellbeing, resilience, and coping strategies. I am also a Certified Hypnotherapist and have completed advanced training across a wide range of counselling modalities, as well as achieving Master Practitioner status in NLP.  I also hold qualifications in life coaching.  My work is delivered under supervision, I am fully insured and hold a current enhanced DBS certificate.

I’m passionate about helping clients reconnect with their sense of balance, resilience, and well-being, empowering them to take charge of their own growth and mental health journey. My therapeutic approach is holistic, person-centred, and grounded in both psychological science and genuine human connection.

I’m also delighted to share that I’ve been accepted onto the Professional Doctorate in Health Psychology programme, which I’ll begin November 2026, after completing my Autism Assessment training. This next chapter will allow me to build on my current work, specialising even further in psychological health, neurodiversity, and applied therapeutic practice.

At Reflexions Therapy Services, my mission is simple, to provide a safe, supportive space where people feel heard, understood, and empowered to create meaningful, lasting change.

Introducing Oscar

.

Oscar is our almost 7-month-old therapy dog in training, working alongside our team at Reflexions to support clients in achieving emotional wellbeing. He’s been training since he was just 8 weeks old, and from the start, it was clear he’s naturally suited to this important work. He is somewhat energetic , however, is gentle, and incredibly attentive, Oscar brings a sense of comfort, calm, and companionship to therapy sessions, helping clients to feel safe, supported, and more at ease.

Research shows that having a pet present during therapy can reduce stress, lower anxiety, and increase feelings of connection and trust, making sessions more relaxed and effective. Oscar is hypoallergenic, non-shedding, and a friendly mix of King Charles Cavalier and Cockapoo, making him the perfect four-legged therapy partner.

It’s important to note that Oscar’s presence is optional, sessions can proceed with or without him, and he may not always be available unless preplanned and included in your therapeutic plan. There are no additional costs involved for his support… though he does have a fondness for treats, so bringing one might earn you a tail wag or two!

Oscar loves his work and is excited to be part of your journey to wellbeing, resilience, and calm.
